Family and friends watched as “The hands of time” stopped for Bertha Marlene (Stewart) Voyles on Dec. 20, 2024 at her home in Union Star KY at age 71. She was born on October 4, 1953 in Breckinridge County, KY.
Let us reflect on the life of Marlene, with limited education she started working at a young age. She married and raised three children on their family farm in Battletown, KY. Over a number of years, she had several “untraditional” jobs, from working in a sawmill to wrapping meat at a local grocery. She worked hard all her life and achieved several personal goals. Her faith was as strong as the friendships she had with several others. Life for her was hard but this is what made her the strong, loving person she was. Marlene could be “hard as nails” or “as gentle as a butterfly’s kiss.” She touched so many people in her life; In her senior years she enjoyed camping and the lakes with family and friends.
Marlene leaves behind her daughters, Tammy (Todd) Faulkenburg, Tina Powers, and Kathy (Tony) Voyles Davis; sister, Barbara Irwin; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; companion, Neil Carr and his daughter Samantha Wright; and her “sister of the heart” Peewee (Verna) Hardesty.
