Mr. Curtis Ray Morgan, age 90, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. Curtis was born on August 9, 1934, the son of Marsh and Minnie Jenkins Morgan.
Curtis grew up on a farm with his parents, brothers and sisters. He began helping on the farm as a young child and it became a large part of who he was, as he continued to farm the entirety of his life. As he grew and started his own family, he would log and operate a sawmill in the winter to continue to support his wife and children. Curtis married the love of his life, Della on May 9,1953. They met by chance, as they both attended a Sunday service at Cedar Grove Church in Brandenburg where neither was a member at the time. Della was wearing a green coat and Curtis always told the story that as soon as he saw the girl in the green coat, he knew that he would marry her. Curtis and Della built their life together in Crosier Bottom in the same house that Curtis grew up in. They remained in the bottoms for 60 years before moving to their farm in Brandenburg.
Curtis was a longtime member of Ekron Baptist Church, where he was baptized at the age of 12 in 1946. Curtis served the church as a Deacon for a large number of the years of his adult life. One of his proudest accomplishments was having perfect Sunday School attendance for a period of 40 years. Church, Family, and Farming were the foundation his life was built on.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 66 years, Della Lawson Morgan; his son-in-law, Ronnie Greenwell; and 14 brothers and sisters, Elwood, Harley, Forrest, Jessie, Hazel, Calvin, Phoebe, and Kenneth Morgan, Ileene Dowell, Irma Jean Simmons, Mary Ledford, Ruthie Powell, and Leota and Charles Bernardi; and numerous other extended family members. He is survived by three children, Barbara Greenwell-Tolhurst, and her husband, Larry, Steven Curtis Morgan, and his wife, Kathy, and Debbie Ann Hardin, and her husband, Audie; six grandchildren, Stephanie Lee and her husband, Dean, Dale Greenwell and his wife, Tabitha, Sara Redmon and her husband, Joey, Virgil and Nathan Hardin, and Steven Morgan and his wife, Amanda; four step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Ekron Baptist Church, with Revs. Tom Bridge and Tom Curry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hager Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, and at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Ekron Baptist Church Building Fund.
