Despite burn ban, multiple fire departments respond to out-of-control fire at County's burn pile

Multiple fire departments worked to get a fire at the County's burn pad under control near a wood line on Moreman Road in Brandenburg.

An out-of-control midday fire at the County's burn pad today, Oct. 30, led to multiple fire departments from around the county being dispatched to the scene on Moreman Road in Brandenburg. The Meade County Fiscal Court announced later this afternoon that the burn pad, where citizens can dump yard and tree debris, would be closed until further notice.

In a twist of irony, at best, the Meade County Fiscal Court shared a post from the Meade County Fire District earlier this month informing Meade County citizens that, per Kentucky law (KRS 149.400), starting a fire within 150 feet of wood lines between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. from October 1 to December 15 is against the law.

Adding to the issue, a multi-car wreck on the Bypass with a reported car fire occurred while all available fire units were on scene or en route to the County's burn pile fire. Fire department assets were pulled from that fire and were redirected to the accident scene. When the fire departments arrived, there was only smoke coming from one of the vehicles, but fortunately, there was no fire.
