John Edward Allgeier, age 94, passed away on October 24, 2024, at Harrison County Hospital.
John was born on October 17, 1930, to the late Dorena and Albert Allgeier in Louisville, KY. John was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Allgeier.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verna, his sons Gary Allgeier (Mitzi) Charlie
Allgeier (Jammie), and his daughters Linette Allgeier and Gwen Moreland (Medford). In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Patrick Allgeier, Natalie Winkelman, Olivia Hall, Tatum True, Samantha Howe, Chaselyn Allgeier, Ryan Allgeier, and great grandchildren, Grant Winkelman and Collins Packer.
John was a graduate of Fern Creek High School in 1948. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Kentucky in 1958 and everyone knows his love for the UK Wildcats! During this time, John also served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954.
John spent his career working at Olin Chemical Plant where he made lifelong friendships. He retired after 33 years in 1992.
John loved being with family and friends. He was an active member of St. John the Apostle Church. He was the pitcher for the church softball team and volunteered and cooked at many church picnics. He followed his children and grandchildren by attending band events, football, soccer, basketball and softball games and the occasional dance recital.
John always kept moving. He enjoyed putting out a large garden annually. Plus, he kept busy with the farm and his cattle.
He will be forever in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Martin officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the narthex at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of mass on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
