Joseph Anthony Sipes

Joseph (Joe) Anthony Sipes, 88, of Ekron, Ky, passed away, Monday, June 3, 2024 at Baptist Health Hardin.


He was a former teacher at the Fort Knox Independent School System, where he dedicated 32 years of his 50-year career teaching mathematics, physics, and computer programming. After retirement, he continued to teach math to college students at the local Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Fort Knox campus. Prior to his teaching career, he served in the United States Air Force for four years across the country and in Japan. Joe was a former student of St. Mary’s Seminary in Marion County, Ky.


Joe was a lifelong farmer raising Polled Hereford-Angus mix cattle. He was a Catholic, passionate about the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was a devoted father to his four children and a loving husband to his wife, Ann. He knew no strangers and would lend a helping hand to anyone. He also found time to give back to the community by volunteering as a lector and Eucharistic minister at church and a volunteer for Hosparus for several years.


He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Sipes; parents, Henry Thomas Sipes and Lucie Alleen Ray Sipes; brother, Gerald Sipes, nephews Joey and Eric Sipes, and his niece, Lisa Sipes.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Tyson Sipes of Flaherty, Ky; his three children, Louis (Barbara) Sipes of Nicholasville and their child, Mark Sipes; Mary Sipes of Flaherty and her children, Atlee Zabel and Andrew Zabel; and Henry (Tonya) Sipes of Pendleton and their children, Deidra Sipes, Danilo Mendoza and Anielka Mendoza; a great grandchild, Jackson Ray Zabel; and five siblings, Albert Sipes, Fred (Rita) Sipes, Martin Sipes, Mary Ann (George) Brangers and Rose Sipes.


The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty, Ky with Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery.


Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff, KY
