LCPL Richard Allen Holtrop, age 69, formerly of Muskegon, MI, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY. LCPL Holtrop was born, December 6, 1954, the son of the late Arvid Richard and Zella Marie (Rogers) Holtrop.
LCPL Holtrop proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a man of many interests. He enjoyed all things NASCAR and was an avid DVD collector, having over 900 DVD’s. He enjoyed being around people and served as a Bingo caller for over 35 years until the passing of his wife. His pride and joy were his grandkids and he loved spending every minute he could with them.
LCPL Holtrop was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 ½ years, Cheryle Holtrop; his siblings, Linda Frost, Ira Holtrop, and Penelope Osborne. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Jupin and her husband, Calvin; three grandchildren, Nova, Rayla, and Caden; his siblings, David Holtrop and his wife, Rhonda, and Pamela Holtrop; his loving companion, Woody; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home. Burial will be held at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church Memorial Courtyard in Muskegon, MI, at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until the time of service on Saturday.
