Malayah Naiari Tonaé Banks, age 1, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY. Malayah was born on June 17, 2023. She had an infectious smile, a gigantic laugh, and an enormous personality that all who met and knew her, just fell in love with. “Never forget her smile!”
Malayah was preceded in death by her great grandfather, Joseph P. Welch, Sr.; her great-great grandparents, Johnnie P. and Lucretia Welch; and her uncle, Démarion Welch. She is survived by her father, Demond P. (Katie Bennett) Banks; her mother, Kaiyh Schmid; two brothers, Messiah Solaris Preston Banks, and Crue Risinger; her grandparents, Carol Ann Banks, Joseph Preston Welch, Jr., Keyan Parks and Jamey Drake; her aunts, Démaria Welch, Jordan Alexander, and Brooklyn; her uncle, DéShawn Welch; her great-great aunt, Wanda “Sissy” Welch; and her godmother, Amber Ditto.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of service on Sunday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Norton Children’s Hospital; Kosair Kids Child Abuse Prevention Fund at www.kosair.org/tribute; or any other organization of the donor’s choice to help prevent child abuse.
