Early Monday morning, Meade County Dispatch received a call at 12:51 a.m. from a female subject reporting that her ex-boyfriend had come to her house on Sandy Hill Road, appearing to be drunk, acting belligerent, and attempting to get in the house. Neighbors had also called MC Dispatch, reporting a domestic issue was taking place at the home.
According to law enforcement officers, Meade County Sheriff's Office Deputies arrived on the scene and made contact with Jerry Martin, 44, of Scottsville. Martin picked up a cinder block and threw it through the home's living room window. Martin refused to comply with commands from the Deputies, as he got back into his vehicle and drove through the yard. While fleeing, Martin almost struck a Deputy on two occasions as he fled through the yard. The Deputies attempted to catch up with Martin but lost contact with his vehicle.
Upon arriving back at the original scene to obtain more information, they discovered Martin's vehicle in a neighbor's backyard. Martin again fled with the Deputies pursuing him to Owen Loop. He attempted to lose the Deputies by turning off his lights as he drove through a cornfield. Martin exited his vehicle near a barn and fled on foot. With the help of a K-9 unit and neighboring agencies, Martin was located and arrested, after a call came into Dispatch at 3:32 that Martin was standing by a building on the caller's property.
Martin was lodged in the Meade County Detention Center and charged with attempted murder of a first responder (other than a peace officer); wanton endangerment of a police officer (2nd degree); fleeing or evading police (1st degree); attempted burglary (2nd degree); menacing; driving on DUI suspended license (3rd offense); possession of open alcohol beverage container in motor vehicle; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (4th or greater); criminal mischief (1st degree).
