Chad Hobbs

On New Year's Day at approximately 6:43 p.m., a two-car collision in Meade County resulted in a fatality. The collision occurred on KY 1692 (Fairgrounds Rd.) between the road's intersections with Barwater Rd. and Circle K Rd.

According to Kentucky State Police who were called for assistance by the Meade County Sheriff's Office for collision reconstruction due to the fatality, Gregory Brown, 62, of Payneville was traveling northbound on Fairgrounds Rd. in a Chevrolet Malibu. For unknown reasons, KSP stated that Brown crossed out of his lane into the oncoming lane. This caused Brown to collide with Jeffrey Cox, 52, of Webster, who was traveling southbound in a Ford F-150.

The Meade County Coroner's Office pronounced Brown deceased at the scene of the accident. Cox was transported to University of Louisville Hospital after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries from the collision.

Fairgrounds Rd. was closed for several hours as troopers reconstructed the collision, which remains under investigation at this time by KSP reconstructionist Trooper Scott Wheatley.
