Rena Louise Self, age 88, of Ekron, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, surrounded by her precious family.
She was born on December 11, 1936, in Payneville, KY, daughter of the late Charles Mills and Mary Norris Mills. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Self; sons, Timothy and David Self; sisters, Ruth Mills, Anna Mills, and Katherine Atthowe; and brother-in-law, Raymond Self.
Rena was Catholic by faith, a devout homemaker, a skilled word search solver, a talented crocheter, and an avid watcher of game shows and soap operas. Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, Walker, Texas Ranger, and the Price is Right were some of her favorites. Rena had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was a helping hand to those in need, a “granny to all”, and never turned anyone away.
Rena was known by many names: Mom, GG, MiMi, Granny, Spicy Granny, and Great-Granny. When you were around her, you knew what love was and she had plenty of it to go around. Rena was faithful, humble, and kind, and her generosity impacted those around her in ways beyond words. She deserved the world and every beautiful thing that it had to offer. She was a blessing to so many and will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
She is survived by her children, Charlie (Carrie) Self, Rena (Alan) Miller, Sandra (Bobby) Waters, Theresa Self, and Karen Troutman; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and a very special future granddaughter-in-law, Hailey Lawson.
Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 4-8:00 P.M. with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Greg Beavin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Payneville, KY.
